Stanford Battles Hard But Falls Short In Fiesta Bowl

Superstar quarterback Andrew Luck and the formidable Stanford Cardinal football team took their act to Glendale, Arizona, to face the equally talented and determined Oklahoma State Cowboys in the 2012 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl this past Monday evening.

Luck powered the well-oiled Stanford offense all evening long, maximizing every last moment of time he was given in the pocket while surveying the field and routinely finding open receivers. A dozen other times, he rolled out to his left or right after a play action fake and delivered a perfect strike to a tight end in the flat for a 10-20 yard gain. Stanford took hold of the game early and led 7-0 after fifteen minutes, but the Cowboys rallied for 21 second quarter points to tie the game at 21 and render the outcome entirely unpredictable going into the half.

Both squads got out of the gate slowly in the second half, but the Cardinal continued to hold onto the lead. When running back Stepfan Taylor pierced the goal line from one yard out to pull Stanford ahead 38-31 with just over four minutes left in the game, it seemed that a convincing and memorable Pac-12 upset was in the making.

Unfortunately for fans of the tree, Cowboy quarterback Brandon Weeden had other plans, and soon led his troops on a long drive. Oklahoma State running back Joseph Randle punched it in from four yards out to tie the game at 38 after an 80-yard drive that lasted about as long as healthy lungs can hold their breath. Impressively but not surprisingly, Luck called a series of effective plays that put the offense in scoring range, but kicker Jordan Williamson was unable to connect on a sizable smack as time expired in regulation.

Only a few plays into a critical overtime period, Williamson was again asked to slap the leather through the yellow sticks, but his efforts were once again unsuccessful. After Weeden threw a perfect slant route pass that got the Cowboys down to the 1/2 yard line, Oklahoma State kicker Quinn Sharp connected on a 22-yard game winner.

Jeff Cole Construction would like to give a heartfelt congrats to the Stanford Cardinal on their accomplishments, and wish good luck to Andrew Luck on his future endeavors.

Bowl Season Kicks Off This Weekend!

The 2011 college bowl season has snuck up on us like an experienced ninja, and a bevy of games will unfold over the course of the next month.

Before main courses such as Stanford vs. Oklahoma State and Wisconsin vs. Oregon come along, the NCAA is setting a bowl of chips down in the center of the table with three middle-of-the-road matchups this upcoming weekend.

Next Tuesday the 20th will begin a twenty day stretch in which 31 marquee bowl games will be played, leading up to the BCS Championship between LSU and Alabama. Stay tuned in the upcoming days for previews of the major matchups. That’s right, folks – this blog is about more than just hammers and ladders. It’s also about Ducks and Badgers.

There are few greater pleasures in life than watching football in the comfort of your own warm home during the cold wintertime. If your home is in need of any repairs, please give Jeff Cole Construction a call at 916-826-5163.
